Furniture Ideas

Not a whole lot to write about tonight. I've been looking at a few furniture pieces I'm considering for break rooms and other misc. areas of my office project. I found these rock-looking cushions on stumble-upon recently and looked up the company who makes them. Its a French company called Smarin and the cushions are called "living stones". I thought it would be fun to have a few of the larger ones a seating in a break room or brainstorming area not sure if I will incorporate them or not yet.

In addition to these "living stones" I was also inspired this week by Eero Aarnio's ball chair. We were shown this in our history of interior design class and our teacher mentioned that it was good for phone conversations because it allowed some acoustical privacy. I'm hoping to use these chairs in the tele/data rooms which are for private phone calls.

Eero Aarnio's Ball Chair, I plan to use the red one on the right.

Lastly I have been giving alot of thoughts into materials I want to use in my focal areas. One of my main focal areas for this poject is the reception area. In the seating part of this area I would really like to do a mosaic on the floor that uses the swirls in my concept model. I drew up a quick sketch (below) to get an idea of what it would look like with the custom seating I'm using in the space.

In the reception area I also want to use blown glass chandelier similar to the ones shown here. These examples use the colors in my concept model and incorporate the twisty center piece I created.  I want the chandlier hung so that is can be seen from the mezzanine as well as the main floor perferably in the center of the swirling mosaic on the floor.

Finally, My Solution to Systems!

Finally a break through! After fighting and struggling to find systems furnishings that would work everywhere my office my teacher and I discussed using linear tables instead of conventional systems. I have finally found the perfect solution for setting up my team members work spaces. This solution is Sense Desking from Herman Miller designed by Daniel Korb. I've included a few pictures below. I'm planning on hopefully having a set up that uses the straight tables with the returns. Also I will utilize the privacy panels available to help divide the work spaces. Small movable file storage will be added and I will use the accessories designed for the system to make storage and organization easy.

I love the simplicity to this set up. I plan on using the storage accessories shown in this picture along with other storage options

The entire system can be assembled and disassembled by hand simply by twisting connections

General idea of the setup I plan to use for my office.
In addition to this wonderful revelation I also learned about this amazing new system from SteelCase called Mediascape. (pictured below) This system solves the problem of a group trying to all crowd around a laptop to see an idea being shared.  The system allows people to hook up their laptop to a larger screen so everyone around the table can see. Multiple laptops can be plugged so everyone can share ideas together easily. This system would be perfect in one of the brain storming areas where people would be meeting to collaborate and brainstorm on projects together.

Mediascape set up showing a group video conference. I learned about this system at ASID's Student Career Night from a Steelcase Representative.

Small group using Mediascape to share multiple ideas.
Thats all until next time!

Landor Office Book

This semester we have been asked to put together a book to showcase our office project. Our rough draft was presented last week. Below is my layout idea for this book.
